Help Us Build the First Clinic & Safe Birthing Center in Kamamodo Village, The Gambia
Imagine preparing to bring a child into the world…
but instead of a clean room, trained hands, or even running water, you are taken to an old, crumbling shed.
A shed with mold on the walls, a rotting bed frame, and holes in the roof.
A shed where dust, insects, and rusted metal lie inches from where a mother must push her baby into the world.
For the women of Kamamodo Village, this is not an emergency backup plan. This is the maternity ward. Today, with your support, we can finally change that.
About This Mission
My name is Ayesha Akbar, a Registered Nurse and healthcare educator from the United States. I am currently serving in Kamamodo Village, The Gambia, working directly with families to assess urgent health needs and advocate for safer, accessible care.
Kamamodo is home to 26 families, yet the village has:
• No real clinic
• No safe birthing room
• No clean equipment or sanitation
• No on-site diagnostic services
• No trained medical staff permanently available
Instead, when a woman goes into labor, she is brought to a dilapidated shed — a structure never meant for medical care. Inside:
• The roof is rusted, with sharp metal hanging down
• Mold spreads across the walls
• A broken hospital bed frame sits in the dust
• There is no electricity, no clean water, no sterile supplies
Some women choose to give birth outside rather than step inside this unsafe space.
No mother should ever have to face childbirth like this.
Our mission is clear:
Build the first Health Clinic & Safe Birthing Center in Kamamodo Village — a place where mothers and babies can survive and thrive.
What This Clinic Will Provide This project will construct a 30 × 30 meter (approximately 900 square meters) community health clinic — designed to serve not only today’s emergencies, but the village’s long-term health needs.
1️⃣ Public & Education Area (Front)
• Shaded outdoor waiting area • Reception/registration desk
• Health education classroom for nutrition, hygiene, and prenatal classes
• Public toilets with handwashing access
2️⃣ Clinical Care & Diagnostics Area (Middle)
Two Consultation Rooms (for illness, chronic disease, and maternal check-ups)
Treatment / Procedure Rooms (for wound care, dressings, vaccinations, and minor procedures)
Dedicated Birthing Room
• Clean, private delivery space
• Birthing bed and hygiene supplies
• Ventilation window
• Locked storage for medications and sterile tools
• Safe space for a midwife or trained birth attendant
Basic Laboratory Room
• Malaria testing
• Anemia and blood screening
• Urine and infection testing
• Pregnancy-related diagnostics
• Basic X-ray / Imaging Room
• Injury and fracture assessment
• Chest imaging for pneumonia or tuberculosis
• Emergency diagnostic support
This room replaces the moldy shed.
This facility replaces uncertainty with care.
This clinic will save lives.
3️⃣ Pharmacy & Support Area (Back)
• Secure pharmacy space
• Medication and supply storage
• Staff Resting Area
How This Clinic Will Transform the Village
• Women will no longer give birth in a moldy shed or outdoors
• Newborns will arrive in a clean, protected environment
• Illnesses can be diagnosed early through on-site testing
• Injuries can be assessed without long-distance travel
• Health education will prevent disease and improve hygiene
• Emergency care will be within reach for the first time
This clinic will be the most important building in the village.
Phases & Use of Funds
1 Land preparation & foundation
2 Construction of the clinic
3 Electrical (solar recommended), plumbing & ventilation

Final Message From My Heart
This clinic is more than a building.
It is protection.
It is dignity.
It is relief.
It is hope.
The shed that mothers deliver in today is unsafe, unsanitary, and unworthy of the women who bring life into this world. With your help, we will replace it with a space full of compassion, safety, and care.
Your support can be the difference between life and heartbreak.
Please donate today and help us build the first clinic and safe birthing center for Kamamodo Village.
With deep gratitude,
Ayesha Akbar
