Hi everyone, my name is LoisAnne Lowe, I'm 60 years old and I live in a small town in Tennessee with my husband of 41 years. He's 65 and still working hard as a laborer 40 to 50 hours a week. I have been disabled since about 2015 but I worked all of my life starting at age 14 up until the point of a workplace accident. In June 2022 my health was dealt another blow that I just did not see coming. It started with the sudden onset of blurred vision and a droopy eye in January 2022 and then double vision following shortly after. It took 4 months and many tests and Dr. visits to get a diagnosis. Blood tests revealed I have Generalized Myasthenia Gravis, (gMG from now on). gMG is a neuromuscular autoimmune disease, it is the most common type and typically the most severe. It causes a disruption of signals from the muscles to the brain receptors which lead to weakness and fatigue of the muscles. In the beginning I did pretty well managing the symptoms with medications but it is progressing and getting worse the older I get. There is no cure for gMG, there are treatments to alleviate symptoms and treatments for an exacerbation and/or MG crisis. I experienced an exacerbation in November 2024 and was hospitalized for 5 days to recieve 5 treatments of plasmapheresis. It helped but it was very shortlived. I get around pretty good still considering but a simple, short walk from the livingroom to the end of the hallway leaves my legs feeling like rubber and cooking and housecleaning (although I still try) I have to rest many times in between. My doctors have prescribed for me a motorized wheelchair which I think Medicare and Wellpoint will cover but I have to have a ramp installed at my home before they will consider it and that is what I'm asking help for, a ramp and small back deck to attach it to. I think we can even get the H.S Vocational carpenters to donate the labor at no cost. This would help me gain some of my independence back. I can't drive because of the doublevision, my husband takes me to appointments, I haven't been to a grocery store to help him shop in 8 months, he takes care of all of that too. Even a dollar helps and if 5000 people donated just one dollar (and I hate even having to ask for that) it would take care of the total cost of a deck and ramp. Thank you for your time and thank you for your generosity.
