I'm Brother EDEN Douglas, presently of Albuquerque, New Mexico, age 69.

While working on my Doctor of Leadership in Global Perspectives via JAKES Divinity School, in partnership with Portland Seminary of George Fox University, I began to have some discomfort in my body.

I would love to share that I'm writing for financial support with my studies, but unfortunately, life has dealt me an additional layer to my educational journey. Your potential support in this challenging time would mean the world to me.

In September 2025, I started to feel sluggish, and I noticed discharges of blood in my expulsions. After multiple doctor visits to the VA Hospital, a large 11.5 cm mass was discovered on my right kidney. I have now been diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma, aka Kidney Cancer.

Later, a CT chest scan showed enlarged lymph nodes around my heart and my abdominal MRI revealed that while the kidney cancer had not metastasize onto any connecting organs, it is Stage 4 Cancer, and Bone Cancer is present in my pelvic area and right leg.

My 09 July 2026 PET/CT scan shows that the large tumor in my right kidney is about the same size as before, with some dead tissue in the middle and active cancer around the edges. The cancer has also spread to some lymph nodes in my chest and abdomen and to several spots in my bones; a few of the lymph nodes have gotten a little bigger, while some of the bone spots look treated and less active and others are still active.

Overall, the radiologist says things are largely similar to the last scan but recommends close monitoring of the kidney mass, lymph nodes, lungs, and bones on future follow‑up scans.

As I journey through these challenges, the monthly expenses and copays for these multiple VA visits are accumulating rapidly. I urgently need your help to cover these costs while I continue to learn the full severity of my health and treatments.
