Hi everyone, my name is Brooke Gilmour, and I am a freelance Choreographer in and around the GTA.
After two long years without live performances, I have decided to go forth with putting on a full-length contemporary dance production. Dance is something I am incredibly passionate about, as it plays a massive role in our mental and physical well-being. The arts have always been a healing outlet for so many, and unfortunately, the pandemic had an incredible impact on that. Dancers, choreographers, and artists alike have all lost so much within these last few years.
With the rise of mental health issues, we are seeing a crisis play out in front of our eyes. This is why I have decided to team up with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), to help support this cause in any way that I can. CMHA is a nationwide organization that promotes mental health and supports people recovering from mental illness. Mental Health is getting more complex with the rise of COVID and the need for support is increasing. We are seeing a dramatic rise in statistics. Now more than ever, It is crucial that we find common ground as a society so that we can better support those struggling around us.
Funding for artists is sparse and we will incur large costs while putting on a show of this magnitude. This is where I am asking for your help. We will be donating 10% of every donation to CMHA Waterloo Wellington to support mental health programs and services.
It is my greatest hope that I can bring you a show that touches your heart and speaks to your soul. All while giving back to a beautiful cause.
We look forward to sharing this experience with you!
My deepest gratitude for your support and love along this journey.
Brooke Gilmour xoxo
The show will be taking place at the Betty Oliphant in Toronto on August 19th/20th/21st. More details will be released with promotional material soon! Stay tuned.
