On the morning of August 30th, the DeLang home was forever changed. Waking up to the sounds of their 15-year-old son having a seizure that caused him to fall from the bed, 911 was quickly called, and off they went to the emergency room of Pomona Valley Hospital. There, he suffered another seizure upon arrival. After getting a CT scan, the doctors discovered a dark shadow in the scan and knew they had to get a better look at what was going on. CHOC was notified and quickly came to get Brock and airlift him and his mother to CHOC ICU to be able to get an MRI and further evaluation. They got the news that no parent wants to hear… brain tumor. He was diagnosed with a DNET tumor in the front left lobe of his brain. The amazing team at CHOC wasted no time, and Brock was in surgery the morning of September 1st. Thanks to the brilliant Dr. Louden, the surgery was a success. He remained in the hospital until September 4th to be sure no further complications would arise and that the tumor had been fully removed. Brock has had an amazing recovery and is absolutely blessed that there should be no long-term effects from this. We were happy to have him home in time to celebrate his 16th birthday a few days later. He has had such a positive attitude throughout this whole scary experience, and his family could not be prouder of him. He is anxiously waiting to be able to get back to school as a junior at Bonita High School, where he plays varsity basketball. As long as he continues to heal well, he should be able to go back at the end of the month. Brock loves his family, friends, and teammates, and the love and support shown by everyone has truly been appreciated.
With medical bills and extended time off from work, my wish for them is that they do not have to endure any financial hardship over this already difficult time. With your help, my wish for them can become a reality.
