Arturo has been a part of our lives since TK—he and our son grew up together as neighbors and best friends in our condo community. Even after Arturo moved away, they found ways to stay close, always looking forward to get-togethers.

Recently, we invited Arturo to our son’s birthday party, hoping to see his friend again. Instead, we received a call from his mom, Betty, with news no parent ever wants to hear: Arturo, just a kid full of life and laughter, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. For the past four months, Arturo has bravely endured round after round of chemotherapy, fighting with remarkable spirit every step of the way.

When we visited him at CHOC, the hospital staff immediately recognized Arturo's name—they told us, “he always came in singing and ready to fight the fight.” Seeing him in that hospital room was heartbreaking, but despite everything, Arturo and our son talked, played, and laughed just like old times. Arturo was proud to show his friend all the cool things he gets to play with at the hospital, reminding us that deep down, he’s still the same joyful kid.

As our visit ended and Arturo prepared for his next round of medicine, our family felt compelled to help. With the holidays approaching, we want to give Betty and Arturo, and his two younger brothers, the chance for a special season together. Betty has worked tirelessly throughout this ordeal to keep bills paid and her family cared for, but she shouldn’t have to do this alone.

The day after our visit, Arturo celebrated a huge milestone: he had the privilege to ring the cancer-free bell at CHOC, surrounded by cheers from staff and loved ones. While this victory was special, Arturo’s fight isn’t over—he’ll continue with radiation treatment aimed at shrinking the remaining tumor at a specialty hospital in San Diego.

We’re raising funds so Arturo can celebrate with his brothers and mom, so Betty can take time off work, and so this family can find joy and hope despite the challenges ahead. Every donation—big or small—will make a real difference in Arturo’s fight and in the lives of those who love him.
