The ocean is more than water—it is movement, creation, and connection. It is the first world we know in the womb, a space of play and boundless motion, and for some, it is home.

We invite you to be part of an extraordinary short documentary exploring the deep and poetic relationship between the womb and the ocean, between mother and child, between play and motion. This is the story of Domi, an Australian mermaid, freediver, artist, and ocean instructor, whose greatest creation is not just the art she makes in the sea, but her son, Oshi.

At only four years old, Oshi moves through the water with an ease that seems almost otherworldly, as if he remembers something most of us have long forgotten—that we are meant to be part of the sea. This film will dive into their world, capturing breathtaking underwater moments, the artistry of movement, and the profound bond that ties them to the ocean.

Currently, the majority of freediving stories we see in the media are about high level competitive athletes, and often these stories center around the drama of black outs and risk of death. We want to tell freediving stories that create curiosity and inspiration, rather than fear and stress.

Our first film in the Breath of Life series, El Leon, was wildly impactful. At our local screening of the film in Costa Rica, we held a silent auction which included a Discover Freedive course. Before the film, the course had no bids. After the film, half a dozen people had bid on the opportunity to learn to freedive. This alone proved the film succeeded at inspiring new divers; but we also received messages from several divers who had lost touch with the practice due to going through challenging times, who were now taking active steps to return to freediving after seeing the film. We know our second film, The Element, will be just as impactful on new and seasoned freedivers alike.

We have an incredible team on board to bring this film to life, including: Dara Israel as director, editor, and underwater cinematographer, Allison Scherer as producer and second camera operator, and Nicola Newton as our land cinematographer. Between us, we have several decades of experience in film, television, and journalism.

All of your donations will go towards covering our production, post-production and distribution costs, such as:

-Travel, accomodation, and food for our crew on location in Australia
-Rates to hire a composer, colorist, and sound designer
-Fees for film festival submissions so we can share this film as far and wide as possible
