Hi everyone. As many of you know, my best friend and favorite pup in the world has been diagnosed with IVDD (intervertebral disc disease). This is a spinal disorder due to herniating a disc. Last week he started walking funny and quickly ended up not being able to walk at all. A few days ago, he could not move his back legs or control his bladder and was dragging himself across the floor. We did try to medicate him and keep him in his crate to recover but surgery ended up being the only option.
He made it through the surgery and is on the road to recovery. 80% of dogs fully recover so we are hopeful. Although, he will have this disease for the rest of his life and will no longer be able to run, jump, or chase squirrels (his favorite activity). It is possible that he could herniate another disc at any time and have the surgery yet again.
I rescued Bo (aka Bocephus aka Bo Sir aka Tinka) when I first moved to Nashville and he became my home away from home while I adjusted to my post-college life. Everywhere I went, he went (as long as dogs were allowed of course). He has truly been the most stable part of my life in my 20s and has helped me through some hard times.
I made the mistake of thinking "He is only 4! He is healthy!" and did not purchase pet insurance. Now that he is diagnosed, it is too late. His surgery costs $10,000 (that is not even covering medication during the 6 week recovery, extra nights stay at the vet if he does not recovery fast, new add-ons to my home so he can stay safe and not jump on anything or climb steep stairs, etc). I am seeking help from friends, family, and animals lovers to assit me in paying for his surgery. Any amount helps!
Thank you and we appreciate all of you. Please keep Bo in your prayers on his way to recovery. I will keep everyone in the loop through social media and dont be afriad to shoot me a text to get updates.
