Donate to Blanton's Ms. Gonzalez's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
I am reaching out to seek your support for one of Blanton's most beloved (former) teachers, who has spent the last few years facing significant medical expenses.
Susel Gonzalez was our son Aaron's 5th grade teacher and she made his last year at Blanton his absolute favorite. This past school year, she taught 3rd grade at Blanton.
Unfortunately, Susel is now teaching at a school in south Austin closer to her home. Her body could not handle the commute. The last school year, in particular, set her back with all kinds of autoimmune issues.
In 2022, Susel was hospitalized for multiple blood transfusions due to microscopic tears in her esophagus caused by a paraesophageal hiatal hernia. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, requiring another major surgery. She was also misdiagnosed with lymphedema, leading to significant out-of-pocket costs for compression therapy. Last year, she developed pericarditis, adding to her financial burden.
Susel is a hard-working educator who has to supplement her income with summer school and Etsy sales of her homemade crafts. But in addition to teaching summer school and crafting for cash, she is also spending her summer in doctors' offices enduring more tests and procedures to determine what else is attacking her body.
We really hope to help offset her mounting medical bills with financial support from the community she's served so lovingly for the last few years. Your generous contribution can help her cover these overwhelming healthcare expenses.
