Hey all,
TL;DR: My cat, BillBean, had a very close call with death, but a local hospital saved his little life. I am eternally grateful for their quick action, but also racked up some vet medical debt that's put me a bit in the hole, and would appreciate some assistance paying it down. If you'd like to give more directly than this platform, I also have a *Venmo* which is: @Ian-Benjamin-3
Many of you know BillBean, who is the sweetest cat in the world. Unfortunately, the little dude just had a very close call with death. Last week, he started acting very unusually, wasn't eating, wasn't purring, and started hiding in corners. He then stopped reacting when you approached him—all of which made us very concerned. Since it was late on a Saturday, I called the nearby emergency vet hospital—BluePearl in Cheektowaga—who told me to bring him in immediately. Good thing I called, because they immediately found that he had a blockage. If not caught, these will result in death within 3-6 days as toxins build up. According to the doctors, his potassium levels were through the roof, and he probably had not relieved himself in several days. They gave him a red alert and sent him in for surgery immediately to remove the blockage. He spent several days in the hospital recovering and came home on Tuesday.
He's doing OK now, but the tendency to block is common in cats, and he's going to need long-term monitoring. I'll be moving him to a prescription diet. The vet described his condition as akin to a disease, which is something to be managed, not cured.
I deeply appreciate the quick action on the part of BluePearl, but his stay also racked up more than $5,000 in veterinary medical debt, which has put me a bit in the hole. I'd really appreciate some assistance in paying it down.
Best,
Ian
