Hello, my name is Carmen Knox, and I am organizing this GoFundMe for my dear friend and coworker, Rebecca (Becky) Wallick. Becky is currently facing an unexpected medical challenge that has forced her to step away from work, and my hope is that we can come together as a community to support her while she focuses on healing. I’m raising funds to help ease the financial strain of her medical leave-including medical bills and essential expenses-and to ensure she has the stability she needs throughout her recovery. Please read below to learn more about Becky’s journey and why she needs our support.
In August of this year, what started out as an ordinary Sunday morning quickly turned into something none of us could have imagined. Becky was getting ready for church, just like any other week, when her entire left side suddenly went numb- her arm, her leg, even her face. She fell to the floor and at first thought she had simply stood up too fast, but when the feeling didn’t return, she knew something was seriously wrong.
When she went to the doctor, they initially believed she might be experiencing a mini-stroke and sent her for a CT scan. That scan revealed something unexpected. After additional testing, including an MRI, doctors discovered a large tumor stretching across both sides of her brain. It’s called a meningioma. The good news is that it’s not believed to be cancerous, but it does require major surgery.
This has been one of the most frightening seasons Becky has ever faced. But even in the middle of all of this, she has been surrounded by people who love her, people who stay, who pray, who listen, and who lift her up on the days the fear and uncertainty feel heavy. Through them, she has been reminded again and again that she is not walking through this alone.
There are still a lot of unknowns ahead. Her surgery is approaching, her recovery will take time, and we want to help ease the financial strain while her body recovers. But even with everything she’s facing, Becky continues to hold onto hope and trust that her story is still being written, and that brighter days are ahead.
I’m sharing her story because Becky means so much to so many people, and I want her to have the support she needs during this difficult season. She is a middle school and high school English teacher, as well as the Guidance Counselor at a small Christian school in North Charleston. She pours her heart into her students and her community every single day, and now it’s our turn to be there for her.
If you feel led to contribute, any amount will help. Even sharing this page or sending a word of encouragement can make a difference. Thank you for helping us support Becky during this challenging time, your generosity, prayers, and love mean more than words can express.
