My name is John Helm and I’m writing on behalf of my friend and business associate Julio who works as a sublimation technician in a fabric printing and garment manufacturing company in Guatemala City. Julio is an essential asset to my business and has become a family friend over the past eight years. His second son was recently born and I was honored and humbled that Julio named him John after me. During his wife’s pregnancy it was discovered that the baby’s kidneys and bladder were damaged for some reason. They were very concerned but until he was born there weren’t any treatment options. On the day after his birth it was confirmed that he had very little function in his urinary system due to kidney damage and surgery was performed a to install a catheter into the bladder. The most recent information is that one kidney isn’t functioning at all and the doctors are deliberating removing it. The functioning kidney is significantly damaged but functioning. Julio is facing increasing medical bills as well as time lost from work due to being at the hospital as often as possible. I’m requesting financial help to pay for these medical bills and further treatment. The care in Guatemala is very good, however the equipment for what’s needed is limited, and they’re exploring the option of traveling to the United States to seek treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital which is ranked number one in the country for pediatric nephrology.
