Help Shari Get Through a Tough Time

If you know Shari, you know she’s a hard worker. She’s been working since she was 16, from Subway to banking to title work, and she’s always done what it takes to care for her family as a single mom. For years, that meant working full-time jobs and cleaning offices on the side, just to make ends meet. She never complained. She just kept going.

But life has gotten really hard.

Shari was let go from her job in early 2023, shortly after the sudden loss of her son. She had been working at the same title company for 20 years, and getting let go without warning left her devastated. Since then, things have gone from difficult to overwhelming.

She was diagnosed with diabetes back in 1998, and over time it’s led to serious complications: diabetic retinopathy, kidney failure, and painful neuropathy in her arms and legs. She can’t see well anymore;  she’s lost most of her vision in one eye and can only see shapes and shadows in the other. She’s getting injections in both eyes every few weeks to try to preserve what sight she has left. And now, her kidneys are in stage 4 failure, and she’s had a fistula placed in her arm in preparation for dialysis.

Shari can’t drive. She can’t read. She’s lost the ability to enjoy the things that used to bring her peace, like crochet. She relies on friends and family to get her to medical appointments and help her with groceries.

She applied for disability and has been denied twice, even though she has extensive medical documentation supporting her case. Now she’s waiting on a hearing, but that’s still about six months away, and she’s struggling to keep up with basic expenses in the meantime.

She’s not someone who asks for help easily. But right now, she needs it.
