if you’ve practiced at kby, you’ve probably met ash (they/them). they’re one of the most reliable, loving, and hilarious people here. ash will drop anything for a friend, show up early to help, stay late to clean, and somehow still make everyone laugh in between. they care deeply about this community—volunteering their time, organizing things behind the scenes, and helping hold it all together.
ash is getting gender-affirming top surgery soon — something that’s been a long time coming. we want to help cover not just the medical costs, but also rent and recovery time, plus a little extra to help with pet care while they heal. the goal is $7,500, we are starting it at $6000.
this will go toward:
• surgery + deductible costs not covered by insurance
• several weeks of lost income while recovering from surgery and taking time off teaching at kby
• rent and bills while they’re unable to work
• help with caring for their animals during recovery
if you’ve ever taken a class with ash, you already know how special they are. one student wrote after class:
“ash gave clear, timely cues for gentle, calming movements linked to breath. their playful attitude created a welcoming, inclusive environment. it was a refreshing change to be able to participate in yoga without having to modify many of the poses. i felt like ash and the class sequencing met me as i am — which was a beautiful gift.”
that’s exactly who they are. they meet people where they are. they make space for everyone. and now we get to make some space for them.
whatever you’re able to give — even just a few dollars — helps more than you know. sharing this link helps too.
with love,
shelby + the kby community
