Hello, my name is Dominique, but everyone calls me Apple. I was diagnosed with a rare disease called transverse myelitis, which is inflammation in my spinal cord and brain. The doctors are unsure where it came from, only that it is a rare condition.
I used to work as an Uber driver, and I drive sprinter van delivering loads across different states. While I was dropping off a load in Philadelphia, I started experiencing severe headaches that lasted for days. I went to the hospital, but they sent me home. Luckily, I didn’t have to drive myself back, and I was able to rest there. However, when I returned to St. Louis, I still had a headache and ended up sleeping for three more days without eating or drinking. All I could do was sleep and use the restroom.
I visited three more hospitals, but they all sent me home. The last time I tried to get up to use the restroom, I couldn’t walk and ended up falling. I then went to Christian Northeast, where they finally admitted me. I owe a huge thanks to my mom and sister for making sure I received the help I needed; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have made it.
I became paralyzed from the waist down and couldn’t care for myself for two weeks. Now, I am in rehab and learning how to walk again, but the doctors believe it will take months before I am fully capable of living independently.
I am trying to raise money to cover hotel fees until I find a permanent place to live, as well as to pay for housing, my car note, food, and other essentials. Since my occupation involves driving, I cannot work until I regain strength in my legs and feet.
I appreciate any help you can provide as I strive to reach my goals and work towards walking again. Thank you for considering supporting me during this challenging time.
