Hello my name is Annie, I'm a 22 year old homeowner. I bought my house less than a month after my 20th birthday. I'm a small business owner, photography business. I work primarily as a Pre-K teacher. I have a dog who is my child he's 5 years old. My basement flooded on April 7th after my sewer line suddenly collapsed, there was 4-6 inches of sewer water/sewage in my basement. The flooding destroyed my water heater, furnace, personal belongings, and walls. I had to have my gas and water shut off, forcing me to move into a hotel for a week and a half with my dog. Unfortunately I couldn't leave my dog in the hotel room by himself because he has separation anxiety and will destroy furniture, shoes, clothes anything if he's left in an unfamiliar environment. I also had to be present for the plumbers, cleanup crew and all utility workers. Due to that I had to be out of work for that time period. I lost majority of the food in my refrigerator due to lack of no power and no way of cooking at the hotel. My backyard was dug up to repair sewer lines leaving me with no fence anymore. I've looked into city programs about sewer repair programs and no luck getting the city to pay for anything. When I bought the house the inspectors told me everything was fine and I just needed "minor repairs" done before buying, which was obviously a lie after my plumbers looked at the initial inspection report. I have cast iron pipes from 1906, when my house was built. Total cost for cleanup, replacement of water heater, furnace, rebuilding basement walls and re-plumbing / repairing sewer line is $45,000 (ish), insurance is only covering about $20-25,000 of the total cost including all of my belongings that were lost. Insurance hasn't paid out yet but I'm sure it will be the bare minimum. I'm just a hardworking solo homeowner trying scrape by to pay my bills and this disaster just set me back so far, anything helps.
