Hi all, my name is Ani (they/he/she) and I’m a trans Latine community organizer who is fundraising to finish my final year of college. I’m in a dual degree program working towards my BA in history and MA in Teaching, while also completing my California Teaching Credentials for single-subject social science!
This year has been extremely challenging financially as I was wrongfully let go from my previous job working as a tutor program coordinator which was my main source of income. Finding paid jobs for my skill set (teaching, tutoring, babysitting) is difficult since they are often during school hours when I student teach or have school, or very minimal hours like babysitting. I’m still on the lookout for more job opportunities but it has been two months since I’ve been able to find anything new. I was hired to teach a kindergarten class but then it was under enrolled and cancelled.
I am an extremely active community member in the liberation struggles for Palestine and immigrant justice/ anti-ICE work. This work has taken a huge toll on my physical and mental health especially after I was violently assaulted at a pro-Palestine protest in spring and pepper balled by DHS agents in the summer. Because of the physical and mental consequences of this, I’ve had to miss school and sometimes work for doctors appointments or mental health struggles.
Coming from an immigrant family, education is not just a dream but it is truly my biggest form of resistance. It is my goal to finish my last year of undergrad and be able to serve SFUSD’s student population and continue to support my community in San Francisco.
I live on my own in the Bay, with my closest family members being in Nevada. Being unable to pay tuition/rent would result in loss of housing and therefore I would be forced to move out of the bay.
Anything helps truly, I really appreciate any support!!
-In solidarity and love, Ani
