As some of you may know, Angel has suffered a serious medical setback which resulted in taking an extensive break from his over a decade-long career as a professional boxer.
On the morning of August 31st, 2023, Angel’s life quickly became disarrayed when he admitted himself to the hospital for symptoms he had never endured before. Angel was experiencing dizziness, blurred vision, paralysis on the left side of his body, and slurred speech. This was a new onset emboli to the brain resulting in a left thalamic infarct. After undergoing an extensive amount of tests following his stroke, Angel was diagnosed with stage 1 testicular cancer. His presumed short hospitalization resulted in a 2-month stay due to the severity of his diagnosis. About a month after his hospital stay, he began chemotherapy, which took over the next 6 months of his life.
Angel has had countless visits to the hospital, 2 surgeries, and many restless nights but never gave up and always strived to be his best throughout this incredible hardship.
Up until August of 2023, he was in great shape. He seemed to be in perfect health. His days would start at 5 am for his first workout of the day and sometimes wouldn’t end until 8 PM. This experience has shown that cancer doesn’t care who you are, your age, or your background; it comes when you least expect it and knocks you down.
Unfortunately, Angel’s battle is not over. Soon, he will be undergoing another invasive surgery where they will be removing a potentially cancerous 5 cm mass near his kidney. Angel will have to undergo a second round of chemotherapy lasting for an additional 6 months to ensure his body is cancer-free. This will once again leave him with no income for an extended amount of time. This will be a journey of healing and recovery, and hopefully, he can get back to doing what he loves, God willing.
