Hello, my name is Anacapri, and I’m a 26-year-old living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). For years, I’ve been fighting to regain my SSI benefits, which I lost when I turned 18. My journey began when I lost my initial hearing at that age. From there, I worked with the CF Social Security Project to start my adult case and fought through multiple appeals. However, once their funding limits were reached, I sought help from my current lawyer to continue my case through a judicial hearing and yet another appeal.
Now, my lawyer has reached a point where they can no longer continue working pro bono. While I’m not someone who asks for financial help lightly, I’m now in a position where I need assistance to continue this fight.
Cystic Fibrosis is an incredibly debilitating illness that affects nearly every part of my life. It clogs the airways in my lungs, causing constant coughing fits, difficulty breathing, and frequent respiratory infections. CF also affects my pancreas, which means I need specialty enzymes to digest food and insulin to regulate my blood sugar. The illness also prevents my body from properly absorbing nutrients, leading to digestive problems.
Living with a chronic illness has also taken a heavy toll on my mental health. Depression and anxiety have been a constant battle for me from a young age, and the strain of dealing with these challenges every day can feel overwhelming.
With your support, I can continue to fight for the benefits I need to live more comfortably and focus on my health. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering helping me in this difficult time.
