Hello, my name is Ameiko. I was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, stage 4, on September 18, 2024. I like to say I have been beating it ever since. There have been some trying days. I am currently looking into cold caps, which freeze the hair follicles to help prevent hair loss during chemo. I have already lost most of my hair, and I am trying not to lose what I have left.

To be honest, this part has been really emotional for me. Every time I look in the mirror, I feel like I am looking at a different person. I try to hold myself together because I know my journey has purpose and meaning beyond what I can see. Still, I am human, and I have always loved my long hair, so this has been a real challenge.

The cost for the cold caps is $2,000. The program covers $1,000, but they require that I pay the full amount upfront and then wait for reimbursement later, which is extremely difficult for me right now. I usually do not ask for help. If you know me, you know I take pride in figuring things out on my own. However, I am learning that we really are here to help one another, and this time I truly need support.
