My name is Vickie Oyer and I'm reaching out on behalf of my daughter Amanda Smith and her loving family as they face the fight of their lives. Amanda is battling stage 4 metastatic cervical cancer and we are hoping to give her the most precious gift of all, more time.
Amanda's journey began in the early days of COVID when, after years of misdiagnoses, she was given the news it was cancer. By then it had advanced and she started a long road of major surgery, rounds of chemo, radiation, and against all odds, she went into remission and spent the next years rebuilding her life, raising her adopted 7-year-old grandson Dylan, and making beautiful memories with her loving husband, Jason.
But in March of this year, the cancer was back; this time it had metastasized in her lungs. Doctors found 12 tumors, with 2 over an inch wide. It is now fast-growing, inoperable, and stage 4.
Her only treatment now is full-day chemotherapy every 3 weeks with the hope of shrinking the tumors to buy more time—time to make more memories, time for a few more years with her grandson to grow up with his grandmother, and time for any new treatment options to become available.
Jason has been Amanda's rock every step of this tough journey. A loving, hard-working husband, he has had to quit his second part-time job to help care for Amanda and Dylan and also to spend precious time with her.
Despite the stress and uncertainty, they cherish every moment they can spend together—quiet evenings on the couch, listening to the enthusiastic tales of Dylan's Minecraft creations, or just holding each other close. Amanda is the heart of their home, and their love for her shines in everything they do.
But cancer is not only a physical and emotional battle; it is a financial one too. The costs of Amanda's treatments are debilitating for a family living paycheck to paycheck. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses can be staggering: medications, scans, doctor's visits, travel, hospital stays. On top of that, the everyday bills don't stop—rent, utilities, groceries, and things such as a good adjustable bed for her and hopefully a motorized wheelchair. Even though Dylan's biological mother is trying to assist with Dylan during these treatments, she is not financially in a position to take on the extra costs of a growing child.
The financial burden is overwhelming and growing, and we are all doing what we can, but we cannot do it alone.
We are asking for your help, help to alleviate the stress to allow Amanda, Jason, and Dylan to focus on what matters most—healing and spending quality time with her family. Any donations will help with the daily expenses, medical out-of-pocket expenses, health-related items, and allowing Jason and Dylan to have the time to be by Amanda's side through her battle.
Amanda is a fighter and we are fighting right alongside her, holding onto hope, and praying for every single day we can have with her. If you are not able to donate, please pray for her and her family, and share Amanda's story if at all possible.
From our family to yours, thank you for standing with us.
