Hi there! My name is Allie (sometimes Alec), and I use they/them pronouns. I’m a non-binary person who’s been on testosterone for the past 1.5 years, and I’ve known for much, much longer that I wanted a flat chest. Since puberty, chest dysphoria has been a constant source of discomfort, both physically and mentally. It took me decades to truly understand who I am and why the reflection in the mirror never felt quite right.

For years, I’ve been binding or taping my chest every single day in order to feel somewhat at ease in my body. But binding comes at a cost, both physically on my ribs, back, and neck, and emotionally on my sense of peace. I’m finally ready to take the next step: to live freely and fully in a body that feels like home.

I have top surgery (a bilateral mastectomy) scheduled for May 14th, 2025, in Arizona.

Since changing jobs, I have been uninsured, and my current employer doesn’t offer healthcare benefits. I’m living somewhat paycheck-to-paycheck, but I’ve been lucky enough to be pre-approved for lines of credit to help finance my surgery. Still, the full cost will be around $9,100, and is out of reach on my own. This total includes the surgery, hospital fees, required pathology, and post-op care.

This surgery is much more than a procedure. To me, it will be a homecoming. A chance to see myself in the mirror and finally recognize the person staring back. I’ve never invested this much into myself before, and it isn't easy to ask for help, but I know I’m not alone.
