Alex has never had a seizure in her life. On Tuesday, August 25, she had a seizure in her sleep, and Canyon brought her to the ER. She had 4 more seizures in the ER, and the doctors decided to put her in a medically induced coma. They were able to control her seizures with medication and wake her up.
She spent 1 night in the ICU and one additional night in the step-down room. EEG, MRI, CT scan, and blood results all came back unremarkable. We don't know what caused the seizers, so Alex will need to continue out patient care and diagnostic testing.
Alex is home now and recovering. So far, her seizures are controlled with medication, but she can't work or drive for the foreseeable future. She is experiencing frequent dizziness, memory loss, disorientation, and tremors. Alex and Canyon are facing challenges paying for monthly expenses and medical copays. She will need to limit her activity until she feels able to increase activity and a neurologist will need to clear her to work.
Alex is very scared but also enheartened by all the support and love she is receiving. We are hoping that the seizures are a one time event, and Alex can resume her normal life soon. The fact is, right now we just dont know what the future holds.
I'm hoping that we can raise enough money to cover their immediate expenses, so she can focus on getting healthy.
