Dear friends, on behalf of the whole Cabaleiro family, we are reaching out to request your help during our time of great need: in early August 2025, our beloved Toni was hospitalized with a kidney infection that sent her body into severe septic shock. Thanks to an exceptional medical care team in ICU, she was able to pull through after sedation, intubation, and temporary dialysis as her kidneys had shut down and other vital organs were following.

This was a sudden emergency, escalating rapidly from one day to the next from a mild discomfort to significant pain and weakness, to severe dehydration, hypotension, septic shock and all its repercussions on the body. Her kidneys were not at functional levels and therefore she required continuous dialysis. She fought and overcame the infection. Due to her overall condition putting a tremendous strain on her heart and circulatory system, she required vasopressors to keep her blood pressure from dropping dangerously low. Her life was hanging by a few delicate threads, and just the fact she survived this has been a miracle.

Toni has always been there for us with positivity, warmth and empathy for all, with an open heart and the greatest selfless support. She has been an independent and healthy person until this. Now, for her and us as a family, we need a helping hand.

There are many ways you can help: firstly, we ask that you say a prayer for her and send her healing thoughts. If you know her personally, take a moment to think lovingly on every kind word she has ever given each of you, because it was sincerely from the heart.

She has officially been terminated from her job, which is a huge blow for her personally besides financially as the former head of household. She is facing loss of some parts of her extremities due to irreversible gangrene caused by the same medications that saved her life; these multiple procedures and prosthetics will not be entirely covered by insurance. She needs assistance with every activity, down to the most basic. Funds are needed for living expenses, and the only family member living with her cannot actively seek employment as we wait for requested assistance with at-home caregiving -- they are having to be her nearly full-time caregiver until then.
