To whom this may reach,
My name is Samanta, and I am a single momma of two boys: 10 and 15.
This kiddo here is my 10-year-old Theodore!
He was recently admitted to the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) here in Norfolk, Virginia. He spent a week in PICU before being admitted into the hospital.
The diagnosis given was Type 1 Diabetes, and he was in a so-called diabetic coma because his blood sugar levels were off the charts. It was a very slow and long process to bring his level to a safe level.
He was such a tough guy through this whole process, and I am so proud of him.
This came as a shock seeing's how there were no signs, and it came out of nowhere, which the doctor said is normal.
Now, at the time of his diagnosis I was working as a district manager for a fast-food company, making decent money.
This event put me out of work for some time and the company was great working with me for the first week.
Theodore was discharged and we were told he could attend school again. I planned to bring him into the school the next day and get him back to his education.
Once arriving at the school, we were told by the principal that Theodore could no longer attend school with his diagnosis under the grounds that the school was unable to provide a nurse or trained professional to administer his insulin shots. Her exact words to me that day was "he isn't safe being here without a nurse and he cannot attend school until a nurse or trained person is in our building."
I explained to the school, being a single mom, I worked during the times he was in school, and that the school refusing his attendance would ultimately leave me without a job. Unfortunately, the principal couldn't give me an option or any help other than telling me she knows it's hard.

I was told either be at work the next day or I wouldn't have a job, my boss suggested leaving him home alone, but I cannot leave my kiddo at home alone, the ultimatum was unfair, and I ended up losing my job, and any insurance I had.

Because losing my job I had to pull everything from my saving to buy the medication Theodore required to have throughout the day to live. Which is unbelievably high-priced medication.
I applied for emergency help through the state and that's been a very long process.

It's extremely hard to ask for help but unfortunately, I'm put in a situation where I don't know what else to do. The meds are running low, rent isn't paid, and so much more has been piling on.
I'm praying this will reach enough people, or just anyone who is willing to pay it forward and help me and my family through these unbelievably hard times.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for posting, forwarding, or sharing my story.... it means the world to our family!!!
