After an incredible health journey of her own my sister Beverly became a widow suddenly on February 20 fifth 2026. Bev and Scott had planned a future in which Bev would go first, given all her medical issues. But God had other plans.
Scott was Beverly's caretaker and rock. He took care of her right until the end when he passed away from a recent heart attack. Finances and healthcare considerations were always part of triage financially. When he needed to seek medical help himself he weighed all the considerations and thought of his wife's medical needs first. As a result, he lingered at home for three days after an undiagnosed heart attack before giving in and going to the hospital himself. Initially, Beverly wasn't even able to accompany her husband to the hospital l. She hadn't been able to afford the oxygen tank that would give her mobility outside the home. Sadly these are the kind of choices faced by too many people who are trapped in medical poverty. She is now facing funeral costs, household bills and accumulated medical debt on her own. She faces the immediate future onj ust one Social Security income.
Once again, I plead for you help on Beverly's behalf. as you may recall, More than a year ago she herself was hospitalized for a month fighting sepsis. It was touch and go for those many weeks. And the financial issues of the family grew when her husband, Scott had been laid off from his welding job due to changes in the local agricultural manufacturing industry. It was a poor time to loose the health insurance that went with the position. Heart and lung issues have followed Bev every since. The need for constant oxygen supplies and treatment have been a further drain on family resources. Until Scott's death, the family income was slightly over the limit for Medicaid assistance. We are hopeful that in the long run, she will now become eligible.
