About six months ago, my younger sister Rachael Cerklewich started getting sick without knowing why. What began as a routine physical turned into an ongoing nightmare. Her first round of blood work showed small irregularities, but just a few weeks later, her results came back alarmingly worse.

Doctors ordered more tests and scans, and overnight, Rachael’s health declined dramatically. She was soon diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, but by then, her body was already under attack. The illness began to affect her bones so severely that it destroyed nearly 75% of her jawbone and rotted her teeth from the inside out.

She finally received referrals to see multiple specialists — but before she could attend those appointments, her insurance unexpectedly dropped her coverage. That left Rachael facing an overwhelming mountain of medical bills, hospital costs, and the need for ongoing care completely out-of-pocket.

Despite everything, Rachael has shown incredible strength and hope. She continues to fight every day, but she can’t do it alone.
