Mike's fight July 1st update: Mike made a bold stride in his fight against cancer last week with radiation, and today he embarked on his first 4-hour immunotherapy treatment, achieving a remarkable milestone. Though faced with fatigue, his unwavering resilience inspires those around him. Next Tuesday, a port insertion will further streamline his treatments. This marks the beginning of Mike's empowering journey to overcome cancer.
Mike's fight update: Yesterday Monday June 23- Mike took his first step towards healing with radiation treatment and it was a success he is tired but this is a normal part of the journey. We also received his results from his PET scan from last Friday and although the news was tough to hear that he has cancer and that it is on his lung, thyroid, brain, shoulder and upper back. We were also told he has stage 3 metastatic melanoma and will be starting
immunotherapy in a couple weeks for 6 months to a year.
But with unwavering faith and unrelenting love we are confident Mike will rise above this challenge and emerge stronger.
Update June 9th: today marked a pivotal milestone for Mike as he met with his oncologist and radiation oncologist, paving the way for a targeted radiation treatment plan that will tackle the two small masses on his brain and the site of the removed mass. A full-body PET Scan is slated for next week, followed by the initiation of immunotherapy to combat metastatic melanoma. Mike and I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our loved ones and friends for their unwavering support and prayers, which have been a constant source of strength, as Mike embarks on this journey towards healing and recovery.
Update from Mike's wife Melissa:
So that family and friends are aware, and to update everyone my husband Mike Wideman had a mass removed on Tuesday, May 20th from his brain. He was in the hospital for 11 days and that was the hardest thing for him to be away from his kids because our kids are our life and he has never been away from them that long. While in the hospital they also found a nodule on his lung and some lesions on his thyroid. They sent the mass they removed to pathology. But on the 24th of May the results came back and Mike has cancer. We will be meeting with an oncologist, and they will be doing a PET scan and then we will see what treatment will be best for him. Mike is a fighter and says he is going to kick cancers ASS and he will. He was released from the hospital and happy to be home. It was an emotional welcome home for us all. The kids are adjusting well since daddy does have staples on the side of his head and walks a bit slower but they are very happy to have him home. Please keep the prayers coming Mike still has a long recovery ahead of him. ❤️
My brother Mike is in the hospital awaiting surgery because 3 masses were discovered on his brain. As a result, Mike is out of work. Mike and his wife Melissa have 6 children and so she is taking time off work to share her time between the hospital with Mike and their children's routines. Anyone that knows Mike knows that he loves his family. Since this will be a long road to recovery, I am asking for your help to raise funds to ensure that the children are taken care of and the bills are paid.
I asked Melissa to provide me details to share on here.
On Tuesday, May 13, our lives got turned upside down. Mike had been not feeling well. After talking to his physician, I took him to the ER in Turlock. They did a CT scan and found 3 masses on his brain. They admitted him and informed us that they were transferring him out to a hospital that is better equipped to handle his condition. Later that day, he was transferred to Modesto to Doctors. Once he was admitted there, he was seen by a neurologist. The CT scan identified 3 masses on Mike's brain. He is now staying in the hospital until his surgery which is set for Tuesday, May 20th. This surgery will remove the largest of the 3 masses. Mike will be in ICU for at least a couple weeks following the surgery and will be under the care of an oncologist. We have a long road of recovery ahead. I have been by his side during all of this, during the day as soon as I drop kids off to school I go straight to the hospital and then come home in the evening after picking up kids from my parent's house and take care of them. I have taken leave from work so I can be by Mike through all of this. He is a fighter and I know that he will pull through this.
