Hello friends and family. My name is Kenya, and I’m here to help my cousin Luis in a very hard time in his life.
We wanted to bring attention to a recent development in his life. Any form of support would tremendously help him out and help guarantee quality recovery.
Luis is a kind, funny, loving husband and father. At the beginning of July, Luis went to the ER for a migraine and his health condition quickly changed. After losing hearing, vision, and having a dangerously low blood platelet count, Luis has been diagnosed with both diabetes and a condition called TTP. This condition causes the body to attack a protein in the blood which regulates clotting and reduces platelets while increasing blood clots in the body. Because of this, he experienced two strokes leading to sensory loss, loss in memory, and weakened physical ability. For treatment, he underwent plasma exchange (like dialysis for the blood) every day for two weeks as well as currently undergoing chemotherapy. He is currently home and on medications while continuing physical and occupational therapy that may last a few months.
Unfortunately, during this time, Luis lost his job because he did not meet the 90-day threshold, meaning he and his family are going through this process without insurance and now a loss of a second income. We hope to raise this money to help his family with medical costs, groceries, and bills.
He has to undergo chemotherapy and regular lab work. He was diagnosed with diabetes, so eating habits have had to change, and he is on insulin, which is expensive. He does physical and occupational therapy tasks every day. He lost a lot of muscle mass and can’t move the way he used to. Hospital bills are thousands, and because he lost his job, we have no insurance and lost the primary flow of income.
