Hello -
My name is Tony Minks and I am the Manager of the Home Depot MDO #5924 in Sparks NV. One of our highly valued associates, Marcel Lozano, recently added to his young family, welcoming Lacey Lozano. Lacey is the first child for Marcel and Ally. The happy family has had a rough go lately, and I'll let Lacey tell you what's been going on:
Hi! My name is Lacey! I was born in December 2023. I weighed 6lb 4oz and was 19” tall! I was born happy and healthy to two knuckleheads that I call Mom and Dad. (They’re doing their best)
Everything was going all right until I started having seizures at 8 months old. They started kind of weird. My Mom and Dad didn’t know what was going on. We’d be hanging out and playing when all of a sudden I’d just go all floppy for a few seconds. Right after, we would go right back to playing! Things got scary on August 26th when I had my first big seizure. I was so scared; I didn’t know what was going on.
Luckily, my mama was there. She held me and told me I was going to be okay. We took a trip in a funny car with lights and sounds to the doctors. We did some tests, and the doctors didn’t find anything wrong. I also didn’t have any more of those scary big seizures, so they sent us home.
Three weeks went by with no more of those scary seizures. Mama took me to some other doctors, and they didn’t find anything wrong with my tests either!
September 13th was a fun day! I ate some fresh peaches, I picked some apples with Mama, and I took a great afternoon nap! Daddy came home, and Mama was making us dinner when it happened again. The big scary seizure. After another ride in the ambulance, the doctors sent us home, hoping we could get an MRI for that week.
I started having more seizures the next day. Mostly the small ones, but I had two big scary ones too. One at home and one at the hospital.
The doctors were getting me more tests and giving me all kinds of icky medicine. Mama and Daddy tell me that it’s going to help, but I don’t like it. I was hooked up to all of these wires that beep, and all I wanted to do was bite them, but they wouldn’t let me! I hope we can figure this out soon. I miss my bed and my dog and kitty!
Taking medicine is the worst! Every day I have to take it, and I know what it tastes like. Mom and Dad tell me it’s to make me feel better, but I spit it out anyway. Now they crush it and hide it in my food. I guess I can take it that way, but really, trust issues before I turn 1!
My longest streak was 8 days without any seizures, but on 10/22 I had another big one. Mom and Dad told me the medicine would stop it, but I guess it doesn’t always work. We went to the doctor, and he said there’s something wrong with my genes. I thought they looked good. He said that this is the beginning of a long journey and that I was gonna have to be brave. I can do that, because with Mom and Dad I know I can do anything!
As you can see, Lacey, Marcel, and Ally could really use some support, and from my time at Home Depot, I couldn't think of a better team to reach out to and see if you can help them raise funds that will help pay for some of the medical costs that they have recently incurred. Recently, doctors informed the Lozano family that Lacey has a genetic mutation, CHD2, that causes the seizures she has been experiencing, and this will be a lifelong battle.
It is for this family, who means so much to the Sparks MDO, that I reach out to our extended Home Depot family and share their story. Please help us to raise at a minimum $2,500, and we can watch the great company that we work for match that donation for the Lozanos.
The Sparks MDO team are all hoping that with your support, we can help alleviate some of the financial stress and let these new parents know that they are supported and loved by our community the same way they will love and support Lacey for the rest of their lives!
