I appreciate all of you reading our story. This is Elizabeth, Dario's wife of over 33 years, reaching out on his behalf. Partly because I felt it time to share his health struggles but also to ask for help, in our rising medical and daily costs. Dario has been Diabetic since his 30s and we've done as well as we can controlling it and staying as healthy, as possible. Diabetes, as may know, is not for the faint of heart. Whether you are the patient or the caregiver, it is hard. But, we fight! We fight EVERYDAY!
Over the years he has had amputations and back surgeries, as his health has deteriorated. His kidneys are basically non functional. He also had lung surgery last month, for a detached right lung, after a fall.
We are blessed and he is able to do daily Peritoneal Dialysis from home, for the last about 5 years. This is done by either myself, our 3 children come over, and close family members. He fights but more is needed.
Dario is now in Stage V, End Stage Renal Failure, and has weekly and monthly appointments, to monitor his stats. Those are hanging in there but anemia gets the better of him some days.
Because of his anemia and muscle weakness, he has tried and failed to pass multiple stress tests, that are required to allow him to receive a kidney and also to be able to be placed on the donor list. I am ready to be first in line, to give him mine.
We also have supplemental insurance that can aid in our financial needs, but it does not pay out until till he is on the donor list. This leaves us in limbo.
Dario is the BEST Grandpa and father to our kids and grandbabies. They love him. I told him that he needs to fight for his strength to pass the stress test and leave the rest to me.
My hope is that this reaches as many people as possible, so feel to share this in any format you can. Our financial goal is to raise enough funds to pay medical bills and daily needs that are rising.
We appreciate and love you all.
