Update: We have finally started hearing from some of our workers. and have started getting videos and pictures. Phone service and internet are still extremely limited and non existent in some areas. For those who spend time in the greenhouse, we have finally heard from George. While he is physically alright, he has lost everything. His farm did not survive and he lost his home, all of his livestock and fruit trees. He has worked in Southwick for many years, working at Meadow View Farm before coming to Blossoming Acres after they closed their greenhouse. We have also been getting updates, photos and videos from some of our other workers. Some the photos included are from our worker Ifil, whose family also lost heir entire home. No one was unaffected by Melissa.
We at Blossoming Acres give our heartfelt sympathies to everyone in Jamaica. The damage caused by hurricane Melissa is truly immeasurable. The loss goes beyond what money can buy. The least we can do as a local community is reach out with our support to those who are impacted, especially if they are also are part of our community. We at Blossoming Acres have seven Employees who either live in Jamaica, or have immediate family who live in Jamaica. We have H2A workers from Jamaica, and some of them are just returning home this week for the season. From what they've heard from families about their own homes and livelihoods, its clear that they have many challenges ahead. Some family members have lost everything. Their homes, clothes, food, and personal belongings. While money won't fix everything, it can help them recover, and get the essentials such as food clothing and water. The money will go to Blossoming Acres and we will disperse it between our seven employees and their families. It will be used to buy food clothing and help towards necessary repairs to their homes.
Thank you for showing support and appreciation for these men and their families that help us continue to be a part of your community.
