Hello! Our family is raising funds for Agnes

My mom has spent her entire adult life caring for others. She started her career as a nurse in 1990 and dedicated more than 35 years to both Oncology and Medical-Surgical nursing. During that time, she would also become a charge nurse and a mentor to many new nurses. She found such joy in her job that she found it rewarding to orient and train new nurses, ensuring patients always received the care and compassion they needed during such scary times.

For the last five and a half years, however, my mom was quietly fighting stage 5 kidney disease, though she didn't let that stop her from helping her patients. Despite also being on dialysis during this time, she refused to stop working and caring for patients for as long as she could. While many must go on disability to compensate for the toll it takes on the body, my mom continued to prioritize her patients first, working three 12-hour shifts a week, then spending the rest of the week in four-hour-long dialysis treatments.

She worked right up until she had to retire, only stopping when the disease's toll made it physically impossible to continue. Recently, she was lucky to get a transplant, which inspires hope that we will have a long future with our mom. However, we are now faced with the looming pressure that the medical and transplant-related costs are more than our family can manage alone.
