NOVEMBER 4, 2025
Abigail (Abby) Elizabeth Cornwall passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025 at the age of 42. She was born on July 12, 1983 in Arizona to Tom and LaNita Cornwall (deceased). Abby was preceded in death by her mother, as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Abby was known for her warm smile and unwavering kindness to everyone she met. She built a rewarding career as an Assistant Manager at Preston Bend Apartments in Dallas, Texas. Outside of work, Abby enjoyed spending time with friends, reading, cooking and beach time with her parents and extended family in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Family meant everything to Abby. She cherished time spent with all of her siblings, her parents, extended family and her close friends. Food Network, I Love Lucy re-runs, Whataburger, Dr. Pepper and Tigger were Abby’s favorite things in life.
Abby’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched - through her compassionate listening, infectious laughter and the love she showered on everyone she met. She leaves behind her dad and Mum, Tom and Betsy Cornwall; her two sisters, Mary and Mary; three brothers, Zach, Matt and Myke; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, countless extended family and endless friends.
Abby’s ashes will be scattered by her family in a private ceremony in Gulf Shores. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, in her memory.
The family wishes to thank the Trauma team at Medical City Plano for their compassionate care during Abby’s final days.
May Abigail’s spirit continue to inspire us all, reminding us to live fully, love deeply and cherish each moment.
***UPDATE 10/30/2025***
Today is a good day, finally! Abby had her third surgery this morning and they were able to close her back up! We are so thrilled!! She should come off the ventilator later today or tomorrow at the latest. After that, it’s another few days in the ICU - waking up to find out almost a week has gone by!!! - followed by a week or two in a regular room getting well enough to go to in-patient rehab for a couple of weeks. We’ve got to get this girl back on her feet!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has donated to her Go Fund Me, sent prayers, called, sent text messages! You have been an amazing support system through all of this and we hope we can count on your continued support as she begins the long road to recovery and getting back to her normal life!
More updates if things change/as she makes progress
***UPDATE 10/29/2025***
Abby went back to surgery this morning but she isn’t done yet. They still could not finish the surgery because she has an infection that keeps spreading and damaging more of her system. They have her as stable as possible and she will remain sedated and on a ventilator today. She will be going back to the operating room in the morning for a third, and hopefully final, surgery to finish repairing all the damage. Please continue to keep her in your thought and prayers.
***UPDATE 10/28/2025***
My sweet sister cannot catch a break. She was rushed to the ER last night and had emergency surgery because of a perforation in her bowel. While operating she became unstable and they had to clamp off everything they could and put her on a ventilator under heavy sedation in the ICU. Her heart is not able to keep her blood pressure up because of the trauma to her system so she is on medication to help with that - though it is still too low. When the doctor came to update me a few minutes ago, his first words were “Your sister is very sick…”.
if she is stable enough they will take her back to the OR tomorrow to try and finish what they started and get her system stabilized. She will be in the hospital at least 3-5 more days and then have an even longer, more difficult recovery, most likely starting over at the rehab facility.
I have raised our donation goal due to this setback but please know our entire family appreciates everyone who has already shown their generosity and love. If you can share this post across your own social media to reach as many people as possible, we will be forever grateful. She needs as many positive thoughts and prayers as she can get right now.

Hi, everyone, this is Mary and I'm organizing this fundraiser for my sister, Abigail (Abby) Cornwall. Abby is a vibrant, loving, 42-year-old young woman who works as Assistant Manager at her apartment complex in Dallas. Her residents love her, and she goes out of her way to make sure they all feel welcome. She always has a kind word for friends and strangers alike and does her best to make everyone have a better day. Lately, she has been having the hardest days of her own life.
Abby has been living with Multiple Sclerosis for the last ten years. It hasn't been an easy road, but she's conquered the setbacks and was living an amazingly full life. That long, uneasy road just became almost impassable...
Abby hasn't been able to work, drive, or do much of anything on her own in almost two months. She began feeling ill in early July and was admitted to the hospital in early August and diagnosed with Crohn's disease. If you know anything about Crohn's, or know anyone who is dealing with it, you know it's a horrible, nasty, chronic illness that makes life incredibly difficult. Abby went home in mid-August and tried to go back to work, but then she was hit with Strike 3 - another chronic illness diagnosis.
Abby's legs began to swell so badly that she was having difficulty walking. After being referred to yet another doctor, she was diagnosed with Lymphedema - localized swelling of the body. Lymphedema cannot be cured but can be managed with various treatments to help control swelling. Because of the medication Abby was given to help with the Lymphedema, she wound up back in the hospital at the end of September. After spending two weeks in the hospital, Abby was transferred to an in-patient rehab facility, where she has now been for the last two weeks and will remain until October 31.
Abby is currently unable to get out of bed without assistance, and she can neither stand on her own nor walk at all. She is undergoing daily therapy with a Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist to help treat her Lymphedema symptoms and regain the strength necessary to teach her body how to function normally again. She's made a small amount of progress but has a very long journey ahead of her. Unfortunately, insurance will not allow her to remain in the rehab facility past October 31st, and she cannot go home to her apartment because she's unable to function on her own.
Abby will be going to an assisted living home for at least the month of November, possibly longer depending on her progress. Insurance does not cover this facility, so the expense is completely out-of-pocket. She'll continue to receive Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy during her stay, and we are hopeful that she will be able to walk at least a little with the assistance of a walker by Thanksgiving. Until she can manage day-to-day functions on her own, she isn't able to return to her apartment.
Luckily, though she isn't able to work right now, her employer will hold her position until the end of February, albeit without any paycheck. That is a small blessing amidst all the stress and worry. The small amount of money she is receiving from Short Term Disability will be enough to pay her rent, if we are lucky, so she has an apartment to come back to. It is not, however, enough to even think about being able to pay her ever-mounting medical expenses. Our immediate family is doing everything we can to help Abby, both emotionally and financially, but it's not enough. As it stands now, she'll be lucky if she's able to pay off the ever-mounting bills within a few years.
This vibrant, amazing young woman has been dealt an incredible blow - now facing the remainder of her life battling 3 chronic illnesses!!! Each comes with its own daily struggles. I know that she will walk again, go home again, and live her life again, but I also know it will be a long, slow journey to reach that light at the end of the tunnel.
As her sister, I am doing everything I can (along with our unbelievably amazing parents!!) to help her in any way possible, and here is how you can too:
1. Any Funds You Can Offer: Funds will go directly to Abby to cover medical bills, food, medical transportation, recovery supplies, lost wages, and all other costs needed to get her back to healthy.
2. Share this fundraiser with your friends or family to help us reach as many people as possible.
Abby is beat-down but trying to remain strong and resilient. I know how hard it is for her to ask for help, which is why I’m asking for her. Every single bit of support matters, no matter how small - even if you can only help us spread the word.
Thank you.
