Pawsitive Change for Odin

Introduction:
My name is Odin, and my story is slightly different. I am a disabled veteran. In 2003 while serving I was in an accident, causing multiple injuries, one of which was a traumatic brain injury. I am lucky in that I retained most of my mental faculties, but I did develop major depressive disorder with anxiety. I would spend years trying medications to help it. But to date, none have been effective and most have caused side effects that have been destructive. I will skip the sob story and just say it's been challenging. That's why I'm raising funds for a specially trained service dog to help me gain greater independence and improve my quality of life.

The Power of Service Dogs:
Service dogs are more than just pets; they are trained professionals who can perform specific tasks to assist individuals with disabilities. Imagine having a loyal companion by your side who can Help manage anxiety symptoms by providing calming cues and distractions. Encourage engaging activities and provide emotional support. Assist with mood regulation by alerting you to changes in their behavior. Help cope with flashbacks and nightmares by grounding and providing a sense of security.

I know what you are thinking, can a service dog do all this? Shelly spent the last 4 years trying to get me to utilize programs through the VA and other agencies to get a service dog but I didn’t want another pet. When she got to a point where she needed one, we made the financial commitment, got her an incredible golden retriever from 4's Carolina Golden which we named Ginger, and sent for training with the K9 foundation. I also learned that being around Ginger was a bigger impact in helping my depression and anxiety than anything I have tried in the past. I came to the conclusion that my medication resistant major depressive disorder needs to be treated through other avenues than pills. This service dog will be my partner in life. With their help, I can be empowered to return to a life before major depressive disorder.

Why This Fundraiser:
The cost of training and caring for a service dog is significant. By donating to this fundraiser, you're not just giving to a dog; you're giving to a person's ability to live a fuller, more independent life. Your contribution will help cover the costs of specialized training.

Call to Action:
Please consider donating to help me achieve my dream of having a service dog by my side. If you can not donate, do not feel any kind of way about it. Having a household of 6, money is tight, so I fully understand not having the ability to donate. I myself have had to drastically cut back what I would give to veteran, cancer and diabetes charities in honor of my father and grandfathers. But I would appreciate it if you shared the link with your circle in the event anyone you know is looking to throw a few bucks at a good cause. Every dollar counts! Your generosity will make a real difference in my life and the lives of others. Together, we can make it happen!
