Hello, my name is Harry Rushakoff. Some may know me as the drummer and one of the founding members of the band Concrete Blonde. Born and raised in Chicago, though at age 25, I relocated to Los Angeles for musical aspirations. Now it has been 40+ years since then, and I was most fortunate to have my musical endeavors realized.
Since then, I have been doing a performance out of the back of my van in which I have 2 android animatronic robots that seem to play bass and guitar. It is musical comedy and something, or rather WAS something, that I enjoyed doing because it provided me with an income and would even allow me to be able to donate to some of the places I would perform. Most being types of institutions where patients don't get out much. Most of the time, I'm doing the show for free, and so the tips I take in, I split with the institution, like the Children's Hospital of LA.
I emphasized saying it was something I used to enjoy doing because I have not been able to do it for about the last few weeks due to the fact that I have been scrambling to make order of things and make things right. You see, one night, I came home, and I live in a really nice RV. What happened was the police here in Los Angeles, along with the ICE agency, believed they were going to make some arrests on illegal immigrants. They were across the way from me, and I believe they came up empty-handed. So they decided to come across the street and blow up this old man's world. And blow it up they did.
They told me I couldn't be parked where I was because my RV was too high, and they called their tow truck. I told them that this is where I live, and I could move it if they would like, and they just told me, "Too late." I was telling them, "You can't just tow it because I have three cats, and they won't know what you're doing, and they could get hurt." One of the ICE agents and the detective were laughing at me, and they killed one of my cats by towing the RV improperly. He started to put in the slide-outs, and he crushed my cat, and then he left them open while he towed it.
My RV wasn't just like a Winnebago; it was like a tour bus, a diesel pusher, and was very expensive when it was new. Well, they also put a hole in the crankcase, and my RV is finished. They also towed my van. My drum set was destroyed inside of it, and they ruined the transmission of my van, so that's finished also.
I know there are people in worse situations than my own, and I know I could never get my cat back. But at this age, I believe living on your own and especially doing the performance and making my own income and being able to donate to the different institutions was and does keep me alive. Thank you for your time and consideration.
