Hello, my name is Rohan Walker, founder of 1014Alpha, a nonprofit organization focused on education, community development, and humanitarian aid. I was born and raised in Jamaica and now live in El Paso, Texas, but my heart has always remained close to the communities that helped shape me.
After Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica, I learned that two schools — Flanker Primary School in Montego Bay and Alpha Primary School in Kingston — were severely affected. Classrooms were flooded, roofs damaged, and supplies destroyed. Even more heartbreaking, fourteen children and their families lost everything, including their homes, clothing, and personal belongings.
Although I have no personal or family connection to these schools, I have donated to both over the years because of the incredible work they do for underprivileged children. These schools are more than places of learning — they are safe havens for kids who rely on them for meals, guidance, and hope.
Through 1014Alpha, I am organizing a relief shipment to Jamaica to provide immediate assistance. We have secured two heavy-duty 20 × 40 ft tents to serve as temporary classrooms and gathering spaces so students can safely continue learning while repairs are made. We are also collecting school supplies, clothing, and basic necessities to support the families who have lost their homes.
Shipping large and heavy items like tents can be expensive. The funds raised will go directly toward:
Crating and ocean freight costs from Brooklyn to Jamaica
Customs clearance and delivery to both schools
Supplies and clothing for the 14 affected children and their families
Replacement of learning materials and school uniforms
Every contribution — large or small — makes a real difference. This is a 100% nonprofit humanitarian effort, and all funds go directly to relief and recovery efforts for these schools and families.
The children of Flanker Primary and Alpha Primary deserve stability, safety, and a chance to rebuild. Your generosity will help restore classrooms, replace essentials, and give families hope again. Together, we can help these young students return to learning, laughing, and dreaming — one tent, one classroom, one family at a time.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
With gratitude,
Rohan Walker
