With heavy hearts and tears in our eyes, we share the devastating reality facing São Vicente, Cabo Verde. In the early morning of August 11th, Storm Erin struck with relentless rain, causing catastrophic flooding. Many lives have been lost, people remain missing, and homes, roads, and vital infrastructure have been destroyed. Thousands are left without shelter, food, or clean water.
We — Sivienne and Giselle — are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of PONTA D’POM (local credible community association) to provide urgent, life-saving assistance. All funds raised will be directed to Ponta de Pom, who is on the ground delivering immediate relief.
Your donation will help provide:
- Clean drinking water
- Water purification tablets and filters
- Warm, freshly prepared meals
- Essential medication and first aid supplies
- Clothing, blankets, and bedding
- Baby formula and diapers
- Personal hygiene products and toiletries
- School supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and pens.
We are committed to full transparency. Copies of invoices for all food and essential goods purchased with your donations will be made available so you can see exactly how your contribution is helping those in need.
Why your help matters now:
- Every day without aid puts more lives at risk.
- Local associations know the communities best and can respond quickly.
- Even small contributions can feed families, provide clean water, and restore dignity to those who have lost everything.
Let’s show the true meaning of morabeza — our warmth, solidarity, and compassion — by standing with São Vicente in this moment of crisis.
1. Our relationship to the people we're raising funds for:
I was born in São Vicente, Cabo Verde, and although I currently live abroad, my family and community remain there. Together with my friend and co-organizer, Giselle Santos Pinto, we are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Grupo Desportivo Recreativo e Cultural - Ponta D'Pom, a local community organization we were both involved with while living in São Vicente. They are actively providing aid and support to families affected in the area.
2. Clear plan for how we'll deliver funds:
The funds raised will be transferred via wire transfer from the bank account of my co-organizer, Giselle Santos Pinto, directly to the official bank account of Grupo Desportivo Recreativo e Cultural - Ponta D'Pom. This ensures the funds go directly to the local organization providing on-the-ground aid.
3. Beneficiary and bank transfer details:
We are working in close coordination with Grupo Desportivo Recreativo e Cultural - Ponta D'Pom, a registered local NGO in São Vicente, Cabo Verde. They are the designated beneficiaries of this fundraiser and will receive the funds through a direct bank transfer. The organization will use the funds to provide emergency aid and support to families in need within the community.
