Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 catastrophe, is hitting Jamaica right now, threatening homes, livelihoods, and lives. Many families, especially those living in board houses and unfit shelters, have nowhere safe to turn. This campaign aims to provide emergency aid, food, clothing, toiletries, and shelter materials to children, seniors, and vulnerable families after the storm.
This isn’t new to me. I was a child when Hurricane Gilbert hit in 1986, and my parents opened our crowded home of ten people to six families who had lost everything. I remember the devastation, the famine, the destruction, the flooding, and the fish in the streets after the water rose. Those memories have never left me; they are the reason I am so deeply passionate about helping others and taking action now when my country needs it most.
Now, with Hurricane Melissa bearing down as a Category 5, I can’t stand by and watch families lose everything again. We need to act proactively, especially for the elderly and children who are most at risk.
That’s why I’ve started this campaign, because we can’t afford to wait until it’s too late. With your help, I’ll be sending a container of essential supplies to Jamaica and personally traveling there to help distribute food, clothing, and other relief materials directly to those in need.
Our goal is to raise $50,000, which will go toward:
• Food supplies for families and children in shelters
• Clothing and toiletries for those who have lost everything
• Basic shelter materials for damaged or unsafe homes
• Shipping and on-the-ground distribution costs
This cause is deeply personal to me, not just because I have lived through it, but because those memories shaped who I am and why I refuse to stand by while my people suffer again.
Please donate, share, and encourage others to join this effort. Together, we can bring hope, healing, and relief to Jamaica when it is needed most.
