Hello Everyone.
Here's an update from Michael...
Thank you everyone so much for your help and support! Denise and I have been on the phone with insurance and in and out of doctors offices a lot but, we found this $5,000 surgery is the most affordable in Utah and are moving ahead with it. The insurance still refuses to pay anything, even after filing the proper appeals, so we're just going to move forward. The help provided through GoFundMe will help us cover the deposit on the first (and most vital) of three procedures. We are so grateful for everyone's help!"
Here's what I wrote to begin the gofundme.
My amazing chaplain Michael Heil, who I teach in CPE, told me about his incredible wife Denise getting some tough news from her last doctor's visit.
Their insurance is not able to cover this surgery that needs to be done ASAP.
Let's help Denise and Michael get the funds they need to do this surgery. Let's keep Denise in our prayers. Thank you so much for your support and sharing this gofundme on your social media.
Diagnosis: venous insufficiency & varicose veins
Treatments needed: vein ablation & sclerotherapy.
Ablation: The whole vein needs treated, not just a section. Vein currently holds close to 5x the blood volume it's supposed to and has reflux throughout the length of the entire leg, which is causing the pain and pressure. The ablation procedure will insert a surgical device into the vein that narrows the vein and bring its volume back to normal levels.
Sclerotherapy will be used to treat the varicose veins branching off the problem vein, where a foam solution is inserted into the varicose veins to dissolve the pooling blood and help restore those smaller veins.
Though venous insufficiency and varicose veins are not life-threatening, the condition can be very debilitating. There is no cure for venous insufficiency and the disease is considered progressive-a lifelong thing once it presents. These procedures must be repeated to treat the veins when issues reoccur. Leaving condition untreated may lead to skin ulcers, severe pain and discomfort and ultimately disability. Treating also helps someone stay active and vital, which in turn helps to slow progression of the disease.
The doctor recommends this surgery ASAP that their insurance isn't going to cover. It looks like they need to come up with 5,000 real quick here to get this surgery and start being proactive now that they have a diagnosis. Our hearts go out to you Denise and Michael as you deal with a lot. There's others helping maybe to get to this 5000 for them, but calling all my chaplains, friends, and those this gofundme can reach to please donate and leave a message or Bible verse to comfort and inspire. Lets be there for them at this time as they comfort and inspire so many. Check out Denise's artwork and Michaels Book https://www.heilstormstudios.com/
