Our family is heartbroken to share that my beloved brother passed away on 21 June 2026 at just 19 years old.
My brother lived with hypogammaglobulinaemia, a condition that affects the immune system and makes it harder for the body to fight infections. Despite the challenges he faced, he was loved by so many people and had his whole life ahead of him.
A short time ago, he became seriously ill with severe pneumonia. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he was admitted to hospital, where he fought for his life. As his illness worsened, he was transferred from West Lothian to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to receive specialist treatment.
The medical teams did everything they possibly could to save him. He was placed on ECMO, an advanced life-support machine used when the lungs are no longer able to provide enough oxygen to the body on their own. We desperately hoped this treatment would give him the chance to recover.
Although the ECMO helped oxygenate his blood, his body continued to face overwhelming complications. His blood pressure became extremely unstable, his kidneys began to fail and he required dialysis treatment, and his liver also started to show signs of failure. Throughout all of this, his lungs remained severely damaged by the pneumonia and were not improving as doctors had hoped.
Me and my partner spent every moment we could by his bedside, hoping and praying for a miracle. Watching someone so young go through so much was devastating. Despite his incredible strength and the tireless efforts of the doctors and nurses caring for him, he sadly passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
We are now trying to give him the send-off he deserves while coping with the emotional and financial impact of losing him so suddenly. Me and my partner are only 21 and 22, and face the responsibility of arranging everything needed, and trying to raise funds, while also trying to survive in this cost of living crisis and keeping a roof over our heads.
The funds raised will help towards funeral expenses and other costs our family is facing during this unimaginably difficult time.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your kindness, support, and for helping us honour my brother’s memory.
