My aunt Karina was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. Wherever she went is where the party was. We couldn’t wait to see Avel and Karina walk through the door. If it wasn’t a party, it turned into one when they got there. She was definitely the prototype of what you would want your daughter to grow up to be. A lot of us willfully follow the sage instructions she gave to us that will or has helped us create our own paths. She was made of sunflowers and soul, butterflies, great food, the uncanny superpower to get you on the dance floor whether you were prepared to or not. She was made up of sunsets and trips to the beach and your favorite song. She would want each of us to take care of each other but especially take care of ourselves. In my aunt’s job, she helped women be strong and fearless and brave and help those who felt like they were failing as a mom be more confident. When Soleil came I was excited! My favorite aunt was a mom! And a girl!?! “Soleil has the best mom.” I thought to myself. And she has a kind heart and fire, just like Karina. My uncle now has to navigate life without his best friend and continue on the path Karina and him started Soleil on. He’s strong and an amazing dad and needs our help to lay our best friend, sister, aunt, daughter, wife, and cousin to rest and give him time to grieve and create a new normal for him and his daughter.
