Hi, my name is Crystal and I’m the auntie of Jariya Edwards most known to everybody as Riya. Riya was born on March 4th,2001 in Orlando Florida . Although only 22 years old in her short years on earth my niece impacted so many people in her hometown . To know her was to love her ! Riya spirit was contagious it was impossible to not be happy around her, it was literally never a dull moment when she was in the room . So it’s obvious any room she was in, she was always the life of the party , she was outgoing , bold , stylish and overall authentic to herself . Unfortunately on 12/30/23 i got a call from Lowell correctional facility that would change my life forever . I was advised that Riya had tragically passed due to medical negligence.You can imagine my reaction not only was i heartbroken but i wanted answers . Answers that they could not provide . I’m wondering How does a 22 year old girl in perfect health just pass ? And all they could say was they were conducting an investigation.Days previous i talked to Riya and she explained to me that she was not feeling well, we discussed her symptoms and the little to no care that she was receiving . I overall assumed it was possibly Covid or the flu i would have never imagined it would lead to my niece losing her life . Although my neice was incarcerated she was not a bad person , Riya was set to come home in April . And unfortunately we will never get to see her walk out those gates . Me and my family are asking for our community support in properly burying Jariya but also support in getting my family answers .
