Hello, my name is Anne Makahnouk, I'm Hao's younger sister.

In the wake of Hao’s passing, many people reached out about donations and contributions. After a bit of time and reflection, we figured a great way to carry on Hao’s legacy would be to establish a memorial bench outside of the Winfield Arena.

We are raising funds to honor the memory of Hao Lieu, a cherished hockey enthusiast whose passion for the game and zest for life touched everyone who knew him. To commemorate his vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to our lives, we plan to install a memorial bench and plaque in his favorite hockey arena (Winfield Arena in Lake Country, BC). This location seems like a perfect fit-whether you are a local or an out of towner, chances are we spent a Saturday night there together. In the dressing room, on the ice or in the parking lot, Winfield Arena was always where Hao loved to be. This will be a permanent memorial that is fitting for Hao Lieu.

This memorial bench will offer a place for family, friends, and community members to sit, reflect, and celebrate Hao’s love for hockey and remember the wonderful times shared with Hao. It will also be a spot where future generations of hockey lovers can be inspired by his legacy.

Hao's love for hockey was more than just a hobby; it was a reflection of his spirit-full of energy, dedication, and joy. Whether on the ice, cheering from the stands, or discussing the latest game, Hao's enthusiasm was infectious and brought people together.
