Donate in Memory of Fetty: Help Pets in Need

Tax deductible
Hi friends. We lost our dear Fetty this week from cancer. He passed at home and is at peace. Please consider donating to help other kitties in our area find loving homes as Fetty did.

Fetty was born wild and was found with his siblings in a puddle behind a Papa John’s pizza shop in southwestern Virginia. He lost his left eye to an infection when he was 3 months old and was taken into foster care. I took him home in October 2016, and we were together until last week.

To my Fetty,
I’m relieved you aren’t in pain, but I miss you terribly and think of you constantly. I turn to pour you a swig of cream while making soup, expecting you begging at the table. I leave the bathroom door cracked, expecting you following to sit in the steam outside my shower. I call to you when I push open the sticky front door, but you don’t come running, squeaking out your scratchy yells to welcome me home. I think I’ll miss you forever, Fetty boy.

In the almost nine years we had together, we shared six apartments and adopted two more cats. You were so sweet when Mac joined us, immediately becoming best friends/boyfriends, and you welcomed Samson a year later. I’m so glad you were always willing to befriend the other visitors we had, including all our friends, sometimes their dogs, and even a rooster that one time. (I credit some of your impeccable manners to your first cat roommate, our dear Rabies, who taught you how to behave for your first two years. Thank you Katy & Rabs❤️)

Most of the nights of my twenties I fell asleep the same way: laid on my side with you curled up in my arms, your fur in my face, purring in that raspy, warm, filling-up-the-room way you always did. (Of course, just as I would be drowsing, you’d leap off and pace the hallway, howling around the toy in your mouth. Your midnight zoomies were such an adorable annoyance.) Working from home meant working with you on my lap, or by my feet, or curled up on my desk, your tail wrapped around my wrist as if to remind me that you were my real full-time job. I couldn’t cook without you begging to be held— you’re one of the very few cats I know who truly loved being held like a baby. You were so unabashedly needy. Thank you for that. You remind me that we all need love and affection and that there is no shame in demanding it. You always made me feel so loved, my kitten, and in the words of one of my favorite books, you can’t take loved away.

Fuck cancer. I wanted more years with you, and I know it would never be enough. I am so lucky to have known you, my baby Fetty cat✨ rest easy, I love you ❤️‍

In honor of our best boy Fetty, please consider donating what you can.
