Hello family and friends. Some of you were recently made aware that our father had passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2024. He had been living with a chronic lung condition which developed at an early age. Over the years, he lived a rather normal life even with 1 functional lung. About 6 years ago, he was told by doctors that his condition had worsen and needed to stop physical labor. This meant he was forced to retire from the job he loved at Doña Merced Elementary.
Since his retirement, he has been enjoying his time off by gardening, fixing cars (or anything broken really), and spending time with his family and grandkids (Tori and Benji). Therefore, he did just as the doctor ordered.
Fast forward a few years, his breathing had been rather labored and each breath was harder than the last. He was in and out of urgent care and hospitals. Most of which were overnight stays but nothing serious. He always recovered and was back on his feet afterwards.
On March 30th, he was admitted to San Antonio Hospital in Upland. What we thought was a routine visit, turned into a tragedy that forever changed our lives. Even on a ventilator in the ICU for 3 weeks, dad dedicated himself to getting better. He never gave up hope and always pushed his body to improve. Day by day, he showed slight signs of getting better. He fought extremely hard for his lungs to regain function. Even with his immense amount of patience and perseverance to get better, his lungs were physically unable to heal.
Our dad lived his life always worrying about others and never wanting to inconvenience anyone. He never let us do anything for him because he didn’t “need” much in life. On his last day, we all stood beside him holding his hand to show him that we appreciated him for giving us life, family, and a lifetime of happiness. We wanted him to know we love him. On April 20th, my dad took his last breath with his family right beside him.
