Hi, my name is Derek and I am Brenda’s son. Brenda was admitted into the hospital on the night of the 22nd, over her stay she seemed to have gotten better, the next morning her children was notified that she had suffered a heart attack. I rushed over and stood by her side but she didn’t make it. Brenda turned 50 this year, she had plans to work less and travel. My mother was the most hardworking person I knew and she would often work through illnesses and pain. She has never been healthy, whether it was a cough or migraines, and still, she worked every single day, early morning to night. She raised four children without the support of a husband or her family. Now that she has passed I’ve had time to reflect on all the things I regret. I regret not visiting her more, I regret not telling her “I love you” more. But I understand that regret is not the path to go down. I remember growing up that she would often speak about her death. She would talk about how if we annoyed her too much her blood pressure would get too high and she would have a heart attack. It seemed as though she knew she didn’t have long, but continued fighting long enough for all her children to graduate secondary school. As I have mentioned before, we don’t have any family support, it is just my two sisters and I. I am currently in my second year of university, while one of my sisters is working three jobs and the other is in her third year of university. On the 9th of December, we have arranged for a funeral. I would like to ask for your generosity and support to help us celebrate her life and fund the funeral.
