Valeria's Life-Saving Surgery

Valeria Ramirez Gonzalez, affectionately known as Vale, is a sweet and tender-hearted 3rd grader at Anastasia Elementary School in Long Branch, NJ. Born on April 16, 2016, Vale is the heart and soul of her family. As an only child, she shares a special bond with her cousins, who are like brothers and sisters to her. Her hobbies reflect her joyful spirit and love for family. Whether it's enjoying a summer bonfire, watching movies, riding her bicycle, or spending precious time in the kitchen baking and cooking with her mom, Vale cherishes every moment with her family.

For months, Vale had been experiencing troubling symptoms, leading to numerous visits to doctors and emergency rooms. Desperate for answers, her family consulted a different specialist on Saturday 07/27/2024. The same night, Vale was referred to the ER for a CT scan, which revealed the unthinkable: a brain tumor. On that fateful Saturday, Vale was transferred to a children's hospital where she underwent an emergency procedure to drain the fluid buildup in her brain.

Now, on Monday, July 29th, Vale faces a major surgery to remove the tumor. While doctors are optimistic, they have also warned of potential side effects, including loss of speech and muscle mobility, due to the tumor's location. Vale’s journey doesn't end with the surgery. She will require various types of post-surgery therapy and possibly radiation. This will be a long and challenging road, not just for Vale but also for her mom, who is a single mother, her sole provider, and greatest support.

Ese fatídico sábado, Vale fue trasladada a un hospital infantil donde se sometió a un procedimiento de emergencia para drenar la acumulación de líquido en su cerebro.

Ahora, el lunes 29 de julio, Vale se enfrenta a una cirugía mayor para extirpar el tumor. Si bien los médicos son optimistas, también advirtieron sobre posibles efectos secundarios, incluida la pérdida del habla y la movilidad muscular, debido a la ubicación del tumor. El viaje de Vale no termina con la cirugía. Necesitará varios tipos de terapia postquirúrgica y posiblemente radiación. Este será un camino largo y desafiante, no sólo para Vale sino también para su mamá, quien es madre soltera, su único sustento y su mayor apoyo.
