“Every so often, an artist emerges who can speak to the present moment, yet also transcend it. Felipe Escalante is one of those artists” — Dance Informa
Since its founding in 2018, Tabula Rasa Dance Theater has built a reputation for addressing the pressing social-justice issues of our day, including sexual assault, conversion therapy, misogyny, labor exploitation, immigration, invisible disabilities, and more.
After noticing how the traumas of incest survivors remain shrouded in silence and shame, founder and artistic director Felipe Escalante decided to create an ambitious new work, OEDIPUS REX, based on Sophocles’s tragedy.
Premiering at New York Live Arts on September 27, Oedipus Rex will be performed by 16 dancers of varying genders, ages, and backgrounds. Hailing from 8 different countries, including Mexico, Italy, England, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and the U.S., many of these artists identify as people of color.
By joining the Tabula Rasa Dance Theater community, you will help these young artists earn a living wage and ensure that Felipe will continue to develop challenging, beautiful, and innovative work.
We rely on the support of people like you, who believe in dance and in social justice.
All donations made to Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, a 501(c)3 company, are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Every amount counts. We are deeply grateful for your support.
