We are, once again, appealing to the generosity of our wonderful community. Our friend, Ruben Lara Jr. has the opportunity to receive a life-changing device to regain some of his mobility. Ruben is a 2017 graduate of Westlake High School and was stricken with cancer in early 2018. He endured and survived extensive treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering and is currently cancer-free. Unfortunately, the treatment caused radiation necrosis in his brain, severely weakening the motor functions of his arm and leg on the left side of his body.

Over the summer, Ruben was able to meet with a specialist from Bioness, a Bioventus Rehab Company, that develops medical technology to support recovery for people with the effects of stroke, brain injury, and other conditions. The Bioness devices would help Ruben regain range of motion, natural ability to walk without a cane, and a bit of freedom and independence. Like everything else, it is expensive and is not covered by his medical insurance.

The Lara family are longtime residents of Mt. Pleasant and those that know them—Ruben Sr., Toni, Heliot, Ruben Jr., and Erik—know what a wonderful, caring family they are. Please consider donating whatever you can to help Ruben and his family receive this miracle!
